Situated in the heart of the Vall\u00e9e d&#8217;Aulps, as well as being the home to an active farming community, it is popular with holiday-makers all year round.\u00a0 There are roughly 1,000 inhabitants, a handful of shops, including four bars and three restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>A family resort, Saint Jean d&#8217;Aulps offers skiers the grandiose backdrop of &#8220;le Roc d&#8217;Enfer&#8221; down to la Ch\u00e8vrerie. \u00a0Great views of Lac Leman, the Dents du Midi and Mont Blanc.\u00a0 The local skiing area known as <em>Espace Roc d&#8217;Enfer<\/em> has 21 slopes and 15 ski lifts and is part of the Portes du Soleil, one of the biggest ski domains in the world with 650 km of slopes and 14 stations in France and Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>Le Schuss is a small apartment block situated on the village square, next to the ski school, about 50 metres from the gondola lift.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/laschuss.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/village-map.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Ski Resort History<\/strong><br \/>\n1969: Creation of a private company: the resort of &#8220;La Grande Terche&#8221; was born with 2 draglifts.<br \/>\n1973: Take-over by the local council and construction of the T\u00eates draglift and the Grande Terche chairlift (2-seater)<br \/>\n1975: Construction of the Esserailloux and Terchette draglifts<br \/>\n1976: Construction of the Bray draglift. Becomes part of the Portes du soleil.<br \/>\n1979: Construction of two 3-seater chairlifts: Chargeau and Graydon<br \/>\n1980: The 2-seater chairlift was replaced by a 4-seater cable car<br \/>\n1983: Construction of the Lanchereau draglift<br \/>\n1987: Opening of the circuit Roc d\u2019Enfer<br \/>\n1988: New 6-seater cable car installed, replacing the 4-seaters<br \/>\n2007: Installation of the snow cannon<br \/>\n2011: Beginners slopes extended and additional draglift installed<br \/>\n2012: Resort renamed: <em>Saint Jean d&#8217;Aulps Station<\/em> and ski area:\u00a0<em>Espace Roc d\u2019Enfer<br \/>\n<\/em>2014: Additional beginners pistes created. New drag lift to link <em>Folly<\/em> piste to <em>La Grande Terche<\/em> piste and complete the circuit<br \/>\n2015: Double draglift replaced with 4-seater chairlift<br \/>\n2020: Resort closed for skiing in early March as a result of the Covid pandemic<br \/>\n2021: New blue piste added.
